OUR STORY

In July 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we were presented with an opportunity on Woodburn Ave in the historic East Walnut Hills community. Our first walk-through was inspiring as sunlight filled the space through multiple tall windows. Compelled by the light and airiness of the room, we wanted the concept, menu and decor to have a graceful aesthetic offering a contrasting experience to the familiar dark, bourbon-drenched cocktail bars that were prominent. This would be a place for conversations, celebrations and making new connections; much like the café's enjoyed throughout Europe.

The building we call home is named, The Henry. Incorporating this into the name of the bar was what ultimately led us to Anjou. This name had many of the elements that we had been looking for, being European in origin and representing not only a woman, but a strong, successful woman at that. Margaret of Anjou was married to King Henry VI. During his reign, Henry became mad and unable to rule. It was Margaret that took control and governed all of England and territories in France. She would later rally armies against her enemies freeing the captured King Henry during the Wars of the Roses. Anjou felt like the perfect designation for our new endeavor.

We look forward to meeting you soon!
